“Life is a weird thing. We spend all our time trying to manage different aspects of it, yet we are still largely shaped by things that happen beyond our control.”
My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was a great book that I had read to finish April of with a bang, I hadn't been reading much due to being in a funk but this kicked my want to read everything back into drive. This is 100% a book that pulled on my heartstrings and had me blinking back tears a few times. I much enjoyed the second book to this series better than the first. This author’s eloquent writing has each page creating another plot twist which has you endlessly flying through pages to find out what happens at the end... a must read duo series for anyone who enjoys hockey, thrillers, drama, young adult and growth, personal pressures of small towns but I will label this with a huge TW (LGBTQ+ issues, SA, etc) as there are heavy topics people with the faint of heart will probably not be able to handle. As a girl who played this sport, and experienced a lot of what these characters went through, this book brought back many vivid memories and could often picture myself and my own memories in this book!
Fredrick Backman currently has a lot of trending books, knowing as a popular writer with grand lessons within his novels for this generation. This series was the first two books I have ever read by him, and although his unique writing can be off-putting to some, which I thought would be the case for me seemed to be otherwise. Backman's writing complements their storylines gracefully, allowing the readers to connect with each character on a different level, leaving the novel to unravel itself within the different POV's and the third-person style writing. I am now looking into reading Backman's other works so stay tuned to possibly see more reviews on their works from me in the future.
