“They grew up on the outside of society. They weren't looking for a fight. They were looking to belong.”
This book was gifted to me by my coworker who always said that I reminded him of someone from a novel that if I ever read this I would understand the friendship we have and the lessons it would teach me about this important and valuable time and age in my life.
It made me sob, and not just sob for five minutes but hours. It caused me to do some deep self reflection and self growth, I felt changed as soon as I finished the last few words on the final page. But at the same time, I didn't want it to end, I didn't want that first time novel feeling and realization to dissipate.
but none the less it did...but this novel will forever stick with me and help me teach generations after me in ways in hopes that it reached them the same way it reached me.
Often in life I find myself stressing because I don't have my life set up and settled, and that's what I thought being an adult was. But this book taught me I need to slow down, appreciate the moments given to me, the people around me and what I have for the moment because my whole life is ahead of me. Slow down and smell the roses and that bad things happen but not everything is bad or comes with bad intentions.
“You still have a lot of time to make yourself be what you want. There’s still lots of good in the world. Tell Dally. I don’t think he knows.”
this novel is a classic, and will forever hold a special place in millions of peoples hearts, through the novel but also the movie adaptation which also had very high reviews.
I'm not gonna spend too much time explaining the plot for this one because you need to read it anyways!
